The challenge is to generate productive communication, partnership and new ways of working between the formal, informal and industry sectors in order to benefit young people’s access to and experience of music education. The Roundhouse will involve young people right from the start as a result of insight research, the intention of which is to really try and ‘get under the skin’ of young people and find out how they ‘live their music’ as well as get ideas about future progression routes. This information will be vital to ensure that Roundhouse Studios is at the cutting edge of music programme delivery and really addresses what young people need and want as it engages them in the decision making and execution of projects.

A presentation which will convey the Roundhouse’s research findings will be staged at State of Play in January 2007, which will endeavour to present the outcomes in a creative context with the support of young people, professional musicians, music teachers, educators and the music industry.
