Thousands of young people turned up at the London International Music Show (LIMS) at ExCeL on 12 June to try out instruments, test new technology and join in some mass music-making.

Music for Youth ran a special education day, MFY Friday, with a packed schedule of organised events to inspire the visitors and give talented youngsters a chance to perform.

The MFY Prom showcased young ensembles playing everything from jazz to samba, classical to funk.

But the most ambitious project of the day was the Big Gig, a gathering of around 500 young players and singers who came together to perform the specially commissioned LIMS Anthem, led by composer Tim Steiner.

Commenting on the day, Music for Youth's Chief Executive Lincoln Abbotts said: "Today has been a great example of bringing together the worlds of the music industry and music education."
