Songwriter, lyricist and broadcaster Richard Stilgoe has been appointed Chairman of Youth Music, taking over the role from Gavin Henderson who retired in July.

Richard was one of Youth Music's founding trustees so he knows the organisation and its objectives well. He also founded and continues to run the Orpheus Trust, which designs music programmes for people with physical disabilities.

After making his name performing comic ditties on classic consumer TV show That's Life, Richard went on to collaborate with Andrew Lloyd Webber, writing lyrics for Cats, Starlight Express and Phantom of the Opera.

Of course, all of that pales in comparison with perhaps his greatest achievement, a regular spot on Countdown's Dictionary Corner.

Keep up the good work, Richard!
