Results of the State of Play Forum Debates
During State of Play, the FREEDM Studio at the Roundhouse hosted a series of debates, becoming a forum for lively exchange between champions of firmly held beliefs.
The sessions lived up to their contentious subject matter and provoked some intense argument. We've got audio of the sessions for you to listen to again online so click here if you missed out or want to re-live the liveliest moments!
The audience had the final say on proceedings and, with a show of hands, gave their verdict. Here are the results:
Tuesday 16th:
11.15-12.00:
'The Forum believes that music without technology is like flying without wings.'
Proposed by Jeremy Silver, Avid vice president and managing director, Sibelius

Results - 20 for; 34 against.
12.15-13.00:
'The Forum believes that standards in vocal & instrumental teaching are threatened by an increased emphasis on whole-class teaching.'

Results - 14 for; 67 against.
16.00-17.00:
'The Forum believes that the foundation of music education should be based on classical music.'
Proposed by Julian Lloyd Webber, cellist and co-founder of the Music Education consortium.
Opposed by Tom Bancroft, musician and educator.

Wednesday 17th:
11.15-12.00:
'The Forum believes that all musicians who work with young people must have undergone training to an accredited standard.'

'The Forum believes that the music industry has a role to play in judging whether music education is fit for purpose.'
