The Scottish Arts Council recently published its report A Sound Investment: Workforce development in music education. We'd like to know what you think - are there lessons to be learnt for the rest of the UK?

The research reveals that some freelance practitioners and instrumental instructors are frustrated by a lack of career progression and feel their professional status is poorly recognised. Does this sound familiar to you? Do you feel valued by your employers and the industry at large?

The report also highlights concerns over recruitment practice, suggesting processes aren't always open and clear. How does your experience reflect that? Does it matter if getting work relies on word of mouth?

And when it comes to getting jobs, while managers emphasised that experience was more important than qualifications, practitioners felt the lack of certification left them in a weak position, especially when it came to negotiating fees.

Read the report and then share your views in our forum. We'd love to know what you think.
