The Incorporated Society of Musicians is to host a one-day conference on 27 February to discuss the theme of Changing Lives Through Music.

Speakers from across the music education sector will be considering the power of music to change lives and looking at the way performers and teachers can be transformed through their own musical experiences and by interacting with others.

There will also be a chance to share ideas, debate the issues and learn about the latest developments in the music education world.

Sessions include:

• Christina Coker Chief Executive of Youth Music, explaining how Youth Music brings music to children in deprived areas and how this can change young people’s lives

• Peter Garden, Executive Director for Learning and Engagement at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, on the RLPO’s involvement in the In Harmony programme – including practical examples and testimonies from those involved

• Suzi Digby and Michael Stocks from the Voices Foundation leading workshops on singing for Early Years, KS1 and KS2

The standard fee for the day is £100, with discounts for ISM members, but students can attend for only £10.

The conference takes place at Kings Place in London and more information and booking forms can be found on the ISM website. You can also book by phone on 020 7079 1204.
