Shine 09 and the Rhythm of London are two opportunities for talented youngsters to blow their own trumpets (and every other instrument too).

Shine is a week dedicated to celebrating young people's talents in everything from drama to cookery to maths, and of course, music. It takes place from 6-10 July 2009, with the first day dedicated to the theme of Music and Movement.

You can organise events at your school or in your community under the Shine banner and download resources including posters, stickers and certificates as well as a media pack to help publicise your event.

Once you've registered with Shine you'll then have your own page on the Shine website where students can upload images, audio, video and text and share their work with other young people around the country.

For Londoners there's another chance to celebrate music-making on 10 and 11 July, with the mayor's Rhythm of London festival.

Initiatives include bandstand concerts, a songwriting masterclass, a free festival of stringed instruments from around the world and a competition for musicians aged 16-25 to win a coveted busking pitch on the London Underground. Again, schools are encouraged to organise their own events under the Rhythm of London umbrella.
