Celebrating its tenth year, the 2008 BBC Proms/Guardian Young Composers' Competition is now open for entries. Budding composers aged 12-18 are invited to submit their compositions and get their music heard by a wider audience.
Whatever kind of music you write, whether it's classical, jazz or pop, instrumental or vocal, it doesn't matter as long as it can be written down. A five minute piece is all you need to submit and a panel of expert judges will choose the winning entries, which will be performed during the BBC Proms season and broadcast on Radio 3.
Not only that, but all entrants will be invited to the BBC Proms Inspire Day in London on 6 August, where they can meet professional composers, musicians and music industry figures to pick up ideas and get feedback on their work. Competition winners will also be commissioned by the BBC to compose a piece for next year's Inspire event and will have the chance to take part in a series of workshops to develop their commission.
So there are a whole host of brilliant opportunities, and no excuse not to take part.
The closing date for entries is 23 May 2008 and all the details can be found here. Or you can call 020 7765 2679 for an entry form. Good luck!
