The Incorporated Society of Music hosts Living Music: The Power in Learning, a seminar for music teachers looking at how better to engage students in the process of learning and enable them to become independent learners.

Session leaders on the day include:

Sally Chappell, Director of Music at St Gabriel's School in Newbury, lecturer at the University of Reading and ABRSM examiner, will lead a session called 'Do we make learning difficult?'. She explains ways to make the process of learning an instrument easier.

David Vinden, Director of Courses at the British Kodály Academy, considers the importance of the Kodály method to developing musical understanding, in 'Hearing what we see; Seeing what we hear'.

The internationally celebrated pianist Stephen Hough will discuss the contribution of composition to learning as he discusses his career as 'The Performing Composer'. Stephen will be in conversation with pianist and teacher Graeme Humphrey and will answer questions from participants.

In a session called 'Interior Worlds: Autism and Music', Professor Adam Ockelford from Roehampton University introduces the world of the autistic child, focusing on children with musical talents. He also explains how research in this field can tell us more about how music makes sense to all of us.
